Sir Alex was filmed walking along the tunnel where Celtic lined up alongside Inter Milan prior to the European Cup Final of 1967.

He wondered what would have been going through Stein's mind as he wandered down the tunnel to face the Italians.

United legend Crerand revealed Ferguson believes a feature film should be made about the Lisbon Lions' phenomenal story.

He said: "I saw that Celtic took the team which won the European Cup to Lisbon and that was fantastic.

"What a lot of people don't know about Alex is he has a wonderful private collection of football mementoes just for his family and him. Last season when United played in Lisbon I went along with him to the old Nacional Stadium.

"United were training at a ground beside the old stadium and he pointed it out to me. I must admit I didn't recognise the place.

"But we went along to it with one of the boys from MUTV and he filmed Alex in the tunnel.

"As he is walking along the tunnel Alex is speaking about the Lions and how it was incredible that this team from a small country like Scotland could reach the final and win the European Cup.

"He was saying they've made a film about that race horse Seabiscuit but they should make a film about the Lions and how they conquered Europe.

"As he is walking along Alex said, 'I wonder what Jock was thinking as he came along the tunnel prior to the game?' Then he says, 'I should know, I've done it myself'.

"I don't know if anyone has ever seen the footage but it's just for him and his family."
